| Soldiers & sailors residents celebrate
Artarmon residents in the soldiers & sailors precincts had reason to celebrate more than Christmas last year (right). Residents and councillors met up at the Artarmon Bowling Club last December for a convivial get together after an Herculian community effort, including Monday lobbying at the open forum at Willoughby City Council and collecting 675 signatures for a petition against the proposed medium density zoning for the precincts. That resulted in a rethink, which saved the precincts as well as achieving conservation protection for Raleigh St and 44a, 44b and 46 Elizabeth Rd. The council is now looking at alternative sites, including Georges Place, and the Channel 9 site, to meet the demand for 1937 low-cost dwellings in the local government area to meet the NSW Department of Planning's LEP.
