| Artarmon on sustainability advisory group
There is an opportunity for a resident interested in the environment to represent Artarmon on the newly established Willoughby City Council (WCC)'s Sustainability Reference Group (SRG), which acts as an advisory body to council. I am one of the SRG members, representing the Artarmon Sustainability Street group and the Artarmon community generally, but will be leaving Artarmon soon and have to sever my connection with the program.
SRG contributes to the council's development of strategies and actions incorporating sustainability, specifically related to climate change, waste, water and water sensitive urban design, sustainable buildings and open space.
The SRG consists of a maximum of 10 voting members, including three general community members with a demonstrated interest in sustainability; one WCC councillor; and one representative demonstrating interest in sustainability from a wide variety of interest groups.
The SRG will run for the term of each council. Membership criteria consist of expertise, experience and passion across a broad range of sustainability issues, but with a focus on ecologically sustainable development and climate change.
This group meets every three months. Typical agenda items have included issues such as a review of the Australian Government website about phasing out of heat intensive hot water systems: http://www.climatechange.gov.au/what-you-need-to-know/appliances-and-equipment/hot-water-systems/phase-out.aspx
Positions are held for the term of each council. Anyone who would like to join, please email email@willoughby.nsw.gov.au "Attention climate change project officer".
*Alethea Morison will be our Sustainability Street writer from the New Year. Any Artarmon group involved in bush care, community gardening or anything else that keeps our environment safe and sustainable, please email her with your story at sustainability@artarmonprogress.org.au
